It’s Ok to Not Be Ok-Embracing Your Authentic Self
In a world that often places an emphasis on strength and positivity, it's important to remember that life isn't always a smooth ride. We all have our moments of vulnerability, moments when we're not feeling our best, and that's perfectly okay. This is where the simple yet profound message, "It's OK to Not Be OK," comes into play.
So what exactly does that mean? Someone asked me this week what it means to be your authentic self, “doesn’t everyone do that?” My answer.. NO! Not everyone chooses to be their authentic self in all situations. You’ve heard of fake it until you make it right?...to me, that’s the worst advice ever.
Why? Because you’re choosing to portray something or someone you are not. You may have a good reason to do it, maybe because you’re afraid, or trying to be strong because that’s what you’re supposed to do, or maybe they haven’t found the confidence to put that person out in the world in fear of judgment.
Whatever the reason, it’s ok. To start to understand who your authentic self is part of a process of first recognizing that it’s ok to be vulnerable and it’s ok to not always be ok!

Embracing Your Authentic Self
In a world that often places an emphasis on strength and positivity, it's important to remember that life isn't always a smooth ride. It’s Ok to Not Be Ok
Acknowledge Your Feelings
Life's journey is a mix of highs and lows, successes and challenges. Sometimes, the pressure to always be okay can make it difficult for us to acknowledge our true emotions. This is where the power of the message "It's OK to Not Be OK" comes to our aid. By embracing this sentiment, we give ourselves permission to experience our feelings authentically, without judgment or guilt.
Create a Safe Space
Imagine holding a cup in your hands, the words "It's OK to Not Be OK" etched onto its surface (if you saw my reel today… I have one!). This simple act can serve as a tangible reminder that it's alright to be vulnerable. Just like that cup, our lives need a safe space where we can express our thoughts and feelings without fear. Whether it's a journal, a conversation with a friend, or a moment of solitude, having a designated space for self-expression can be incredibly therapeutic.
Connect Through Shared Experiences
Life's struggles are real and many experience them. We all face challenges, and in those moments, we can find strength in our shared experiences. Imagine sitting across from a friend at a cafe, both of you sipping from cups that bear the same message. In that simple act, you're connecting on a deeper level, creating a sense of understanding and empathy. This connection reminds us that we're not alone in our struggles.
Find Hope in Vulnerability
Embracing vulnerability can be challenging, but it's a source of tremendous strength. Just like a sunrise follows the darkest night, acknowledging our feelings and struggles can pave the way for hope and renewal. The phrase "It's OK to Not Be OK" encourages us to find hope in our vulnerability, to see it as a sign of courage rather than weakness, to help us to find and bring out our authentic self.
Make a Change
Acknowledging our feelings is the first step, but often, it's followed by the desire to make positive changes in our lives. When we recognize that it's okay not to be okay, we open the door to personal growth and transformation. Use this message as a gentle nudge to take actionable steps towards change. Whether it's seeking support from a coach like me, adopting healthier habits, or pursuing new passions, remember that every small step counts.
The saying in the first picture means a ton to me. When my husband was in the hospital and I was trying so hard to “be strong” and felt like I was failing, a dear friend (thanks Annie!) gave Andy this magnet and it stayed on his hospital bed for the duration of his hospital stay. It was a gentle reminder that it was ok to not be ok.
